When we first started eating soy products we brought it up with our family dr. He said the Asian population (he’s Chinese) has been eating soy for a very long time without adverse effects. The regular North American diet is way more harmful than eating a little soy here and there. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hi Audrey! Thanks for your feedback. Have you done any investigation into how little nutrition M.D.s study? It's generally less than a day. Hard to believe, I know! I would never presume to give advice about something I hadn't studied. The data I've pulled together here is from leaders in the functional medicine/ nutrition field. The difference between soy consumption in traditional Asian culture and today's soy consumption is threefold: the quality of the soy (GMO, heavily sprayed, not organically grown), the amount of processing (many processed soy foods now but not in traditional cultures, ie soya oil), and most of the soy consumed by traditional cultures was fermented, which unlocks the nutrients in the food. I'm sorry if I didn't go over these in my post. The take away is not that soy is a bad food, but that its nutritional value is best realized when it's fermented and certainly not when it's GMO and processed. It's also questionable whether it's safe as a staple for babies and youth. Thank you for reading and commenting!

My initial recommendation was not as critical or reserved as this post, but the more research I did, the more I could not recommend soy as a regular food product. Fermented soy seems to be the exception, but this certainly isn't something we consume in large quantities. There are significant concerns to consuming soy as a staple, especially given current agricultural practices and the rates of gender dysphoria we're seeing. I was unable to find research linking soy to this but am curious if there isn't a link since the two seem to coincide. I invite anyone with information on this issue to reach out.

Is it true that anyone can become a nutritionist? Like, I can just say I'm a nutritionist, open a website, and start charging people for advice?
